Managed and entered by ASTAD under the patronage of Qatar Foundation (QF) , the project was also awarded a ‘Highly Commended’ status for its sustainability. The opening of the building was held on 1 May.
The building is a world- class, state-of-the-art educational facility and achieved a Gold rating in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) from the US Green Building Council (USGBC) Rating System.
ASTAD CEO Ali Al Khalifa said: “Recognitions of this level affirm ASTAD’s expertise and capabilities as a Qatari company capable of managing and delivering projects to the highest levels of quality. Awards like these are an additional motive for us to continue to work towards being a leading firm within the region’s construction industry.”
QF executive director of capital projects, Jassim Telefat and ASTAD head of sustainability, Sheikh Soud Al Thani, received the award. Telefat stated: “QF’s continuous recognition in the area of building and infrastructure is testament to our commitment in realizing Qatar’s transformation into a knowledge-based economy.”
Sheikh Soud said: “Sustainability has been embedded into ASTAD’s operations since the very inception of the organization. The sustainable recognition this project receives showcases we are vcal advocates and leaders in implementing the principles we uphold.”
