Qatar Rail awards construction contracts


The line will link the country’s capital, Doha, with some of the stadiums already in place and others being built for the world’s premium football event.

Contracts worth QR 8 bn to build underground sections of the 12-km-long Red Line South between Doha’s city centre and the airport have been awarded to a consortium of QDVC, a firm owned by Qatari Diar, French construction firm Vinci, GS Engineering and Construction of Korea and Qatar’s very own Darwish Engineering.

Second and third contracts

A second QR 8 bn contract to build the 15-km-long underground sections for the proposed Green Line, set to run from north to south of the capital, has been awarded to a consortium of Porr of Austria, the Saudi Binladin Group and HBK Contracting Company of Qatar. Finally, a QR 4 bn contract to build stations at Msheireb and Education City has been awarded to South Korea’s Samsung C&T, Spanish construction firm OHL and Qatar Building Company.

All in all, 100 stations are to be built, both for passengers and freight.
